To all members of the central Oklahoma hockey community:
We are happy to announce that effective immediately, youth hockey operations will be operated by a new association comprised of Arctic Edge Ice Arena, Blazers Ice Centre, and George DuPont’s Oklahoma Hockey Company.
The volunteer association that has been in place for many years has dedicated uncountable hours to the advancement of amateur hockey in Oklahoma City and we are grateful to every player, parent, and coach that has given their time and expertise to the program.
We will also handle coordination with the associations in which our teams play, including the Texas Amateur Hockey Association, Dallas Stars Travel Hockey League and others, providing a seamless experience for families.
You’ll find that having a permanent staff dedicated to youth hockey will result in a consistent, professional operation that will allow players to enjoy the game whether they opt to play recreationally or competitively.
A scholarship fund will continue as it has to support families in need of financial assistance, our travel teams will still be the Oil Kings, and we will continue to offer levels of play that appeal to all.
Additionally, we will partner with the Oklahoma City Jr. Blazers NA3HL team so there is a clear path to junior hockey for those local players who are interested in pursuing the game at that level. The partnership will mean that their head coach, Josh Berge, will lend his expertise to our youth programs as well.
We will offer development camps this summer as players prepare for August tryouts and the upcoming season and will continue our partnership with the Dallas Stars to offer three Learn to Play programs each year helping new skaters discover the game we love. Summer opportunities will be announced soon.
We know you will have many questions about this change in administration that we’ll be happy to answer those Tuesday, June 9th, 7pm at Arctic Edge Ice Arena. We also know that with a steady, professionally staffed operation you will enjoy a high-quality, consistent program from which all youth players will benefit.
We will have more specific details available in the coming days.
Thank you, again, to all the volunteers who have tirelessly donated their time and talent to build youth hockey in Oklahoma City. As we enter this new era, our organization will build on that foundation to provide a new level of enjoyment.
Sincerely,
Larry Donovan, Blazers Ice Centre
Darryl Rowley, Arctic Edge Ice Arena
